ABC's of Spastics |
|
Our innovation is a device that helps those with Spastics Cerebral Palsy and similiar conditions to improve their writing. The writing board consists of a board. On the board there is a wooden cyclinder, where their non-writing hand can hold on to which prevents it from curling behind their backs. Every individual with Spastics Cerebral Palsy is different, each having different disabilities and conditions. Sometimes when they write, their hand would involuntarily jerk and have muscle spasms, causing them to write out of the page and their words are then illegable. The bars added on their writing board, which can be adjusted and held in place, creates a specific area for the person to write, therefore stopping them from writing out of the page. People with Cerebal Palsy don't have the quick and brisk fingers others have, so they cannot hold the paper down while they are writing. The paper moves as they write, causing difficulty to write and is quite inconvenient for themselves, as well as the people assisting them. Pockets attached to the board are used to stablize the paper to prevent movement.
