Testing the protective effect of toothpaste |
|
My experiment is about finding out which toothpaste brand works best. Before I conducted my experiment I interviewed two dentists. I interviewed my dentist, Dr. Kim, and my dad's friend, Dr. Lalani. I asked them both "What toothpaste do you recommend to all your patients?" Dr. Kim said that she recommends Colgate to all her patients and Dr. Lalani said that he recommends Colgate and Oral-B to kids, Colgate and Crest to adults, and Colgate Total to people with tooth problems.
After I interviewed them I conducted my experiment. I conducted it twice because the first time I brushed each egg with the toothpaste, rinsed them and but them in the vinegar. Each egg turned out exactly the same. Since I didn't get any results I was wondering what had happened, so I asked Dr. Lalani what I should do differently and he suggested that I soak my eggs in a toothpaste solution for a week, and brush the eggs every other day. I did this for a week and then I put the eggs in the vinegar, and I got results almost right away.
What I found out was that the Colgate Total and the Aquafresh had a whitening formula in them and they didn't work as well as the Crest and the Dental Care which had a cavity fighting formula in them. What I did find interesting was that the Tom's Natural Care of Marin had a whitening formula in it and it turned out the same as the Crest and the Dental Care. I think this is because it is more natural than the other two with the whitening formula.
Based on the results
of my experiment the toothpastes with the whitening formula disintegrated and
the yolk was
sitting at the bottom of the beaker. This happened very quickly, where as the
ones with a cavity fighting formula
didn't disintegrate, the shell just got thinner. So, I would conclude that toothpaste
with cavity fighting formulas
seem to protect our teeth better.
