Fats In Ground Beef

My experiment started out from a bite into a juicy hamburger. There was fat dripping out, and I wondered how much fat was in the ground beef, and if there was a guide to how much fat was in ground beef. I had my idea for my science fair and the question, now I needed my hypothesis which was that; I think that the amount of fat in ground beef will be within the standard because if it wasn?t, it would look bad on the Save on Foods butcher or on their processing plant. The next step was to do the experiment. First I took the regular ground beef and cooked it until all the water evaporated. Then I scooped the ground beef with a slotted spoon and let the fat drip over the container, and putting the ground beef into another container. I kept doing this until all the ground beef was gone from the frying pan. When the frying pan was empty, I warmed it up again and let the fat from the frying pan drip into the fat container. I did this for the lean and extra lean ground beef, and recorded the data of how much the cooked ground beef, fat, container, and water that had evaporated weighed. My results were that the Save on Foods regular ground beef had 5.2% fat, which was under 30% (standard). The lean ground beef had 4.895% of fat, which was under 17%, and the extra lean ground beef had 4.55% of fat, which was also under 10%. To my conclusion, the regular, lean, and extra lean ground beef were well under the standard. However, all the ground beefs were from Save on Foods, which meant that the fat in ground beef might not be consistent with other places that sell ground beef. So, I went and bought a package of lean ground beef from Safeway, and did the experiment exactly the same. The results were quit similar. The fat in the Safeway ground beef had 4.99%, which was a little more than the one from Save on Foods, but it was still well under the standard. So in the end my hypothesis was correct about the fat in ground beef, being under the standard that the goverment set for the amount of fat in ground beef.
